Stories from the net

Fundamental intuition of an industry is challenged by disruptors. This buys them time. Having that different fundamental intuition can help you avoid competition and grow uninterrupted. How much room for growth? Growing vs mature companies.

Blind submissions

Cool - there's a new NIH R01 mechanism for Early-Stage Investigators where the grant must not include any preliminary data. The idea is to make it easier for new PI's to change directions or take on a different research project. https://t.co/r7EdHKfHDy — Jason Sheltzer (@JSheltzer) November 12, 2020 If the idea is going to change 70%  , why ask for it. Comparing with automation-first Tesla production system and  efficient manual use of Toyota production system, would be interesting to see when the aero engines shift to more machines.  When volume of smaller engines kick off...

Traits of Innovation

Traits of innovation  according to Michael Canic, Author of  Ruthless Consistency . - " a  dissatisfaction  with how things are, the  inquisitiveness  to ponder “what if,” the  initiative  to take action, and the  persistence  to transform the what-if into a viable reality. " Insightful leaders and innovation  from Kellogg.  Webinar  from professor Benjamin Jones.

NASA innovation

Air bag dropping  started due to budget constraints. Space Ramen  an innovation from the instant noodle maker Momofuku Ando. Momofuku  invented flashfrying precooked  noodles so that one does not have to wait too long for the noodles to be cooked. It is ironic that we save time on things that take time, so we can be in the rat race and then miss out on the noodlekind sorry mankind lessons of patience.

Startup School Week 1

I just had to check out Mosaic. "What's that?" I asked, "I don't know," he said. "I guess it lets you look at the internet."   Geoff Ralston  in Future Founders Welcome track. Failure is faster.
